| Description | Since 1974, the Luce Scholars program has sought to increase awareness of Asia among future leaders in American society by providing stipends and internships for 15 young Americans to live and work in Asia each year. This unusual program does not support those with a background in Asia, such as those who have lived there or studied the region and its languages. Instead, this is a non-academic program for students and recent graduates who have well-defined career goals and who believe that an experience in Asia would be useful and interesting. Luce Scholars, chosen for their achievements and leadership ability, may have a background in any field other than Asian studies, such as medicine, the arts, business, law, science, environmental studies, and journalism. |
