Museums and Society

Minor only

This interdisciplinary program promotes the study of institutions that collect, preserve and interpret material culture. The minor examines traditional museums as well as exploring the roles of historic sites and monuments. Courses provide opportunities for students to develop meaningful connections with an array of vibrant local and regional museums, through courses with Hopkins faculty and local museum professionals, fields trips, and hands-on museum opportunities.

Suggested First Semester Course(s)
  • An introductory museum studies course
  • An introductory course in a related discipline (anthropology, archaeology, history, history of art, history of science, etc.); more advanced courses are also open to freshman, though consultation with the instructor or DUS is recommended.
