Graduation Must Do List
Review the list below and verify that you are eligible to graduate and participate in Commencement this May.
- Review copies of your checklist(s) and junior clearance feedback received from OAA this past summer and make sure that you complete all remaining requirements!
- Confirm your full name, major(s), and any minor(s) are correct on the graduation list. If anything is missing or misspelled, contact the Office of Academic Advising (OAA) by email (advising@jhu.edu) immediately!
- 120 total credits required (BS in Physics requires 126 credits).
- 12 writing-intensive credits required.
- All transfer, study abroad, or advanced placement credits MUST appear on your transcript to count towards graduation. Check ISIS now! If they do not appear, contact the OAA immediately!
- If you are receiving ANY type of exception or substitution to meet ANY requirement, get it approved in writing from your faculty advisor and bring a copy to OAA for final authorization NOW!
- Grades of C- or higher are required by most majors (a few require a C or higher).
- You CANNOT have any incompletes or missing grades in your final semester!
- The grade/credits you earn when retaking a course replace your first grade/credits, so there may be no net gain in credits. If your resulting grade is lower, it could result in loss of credits.
- Frequently monitor your Hopkins email and promptly respond to any graduation issues.
- Do you have an Engineering second major or minor? Check with the Engineering Advising Office in 103 Shaffer to verify your status.
If any of the above items are missing, you will not graduate!
If questions, contact OAA at advising@jhu.edu

Graduation FAQ
- " Full-time or part-time? What's the real deal on completing graduation requirements?
- Students graduating in less than eight semesters must complete ALL graduation requirements by the end of the fall or spring semester. Intersession and summer credit may not be used to complete remaining graduation requirements.
- Graduation requirements can only be completed in the fall or spring semester unless a student has already completed eight full-time semesters. Because of the requirement that students have full-time status in the semester immediately prior to graduation, students must register for at least 12 credits in the final semester even if all course and credit requirements could be met with less than 12 credits.
- Students who have completed eight full-time semesters and at least four semesters in residence without completing graduation requirements may stay on for additional semesters to complete graduation requirements on a full-time or part-time basis and may complete requirements in summer session.
