Procedure for Declaring a Major
Freshmen:
- All freshmen in the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences are classified as “Pre-Major.”
- In spring of the freshman year, students meet with their academic advisor to declare their major.
Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors:
- Obtain a "Declaration of 1st Major" or "Declaration of 2nd Major" form in the Office of Academic Advising or in the Office of the Registrar.
- Identify the Director of Undergraduate Study (DUS) for the major you wish to declare at Undergraduate Studies. (Note: in some large majors, students will be asked to meet with a staff coordinator other than the DUS to declare the major.)
- Arrange a meeting with the person listed.
- At this meeting, you will discuss your plans for future courses and be matched with a faculty advisor. Be sure bring the “Declaration of Major” form and have it completed.
- If you are a sophomore or a junior, take the completed form to the Registrar for entry in ISIS. If you are a senior, you must schedule an appointment with an academic advisor and submit the completed form along with a signed checklist for the major to the advisor.
Procedure for Declaring a Minor
Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors:
- Get a “Declaration of Minor” form in the Office of Academic Advising or in the Office of the Registrar.
- Identify the Director of Undergraduate Study (DUS) or staff coordinator
for the minor you wish to declare:
- For minors in Arts & Sciences:
Undergraduate Studies. - For minors in Engineering:

- For minors in Arts & Sciences:
- Arrange a meeting with the person listed.
